Prepared Future

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Vision
1. Why are we moving into the main sanctuary?
This is about much more than changing rooms. Moving EC into the main sanctuary expresses visibly that the English-speaking congregation is not a peripheral ministry or separate department, but a central part of Sarang Community Church. The space we worship in should reflect the One Church identity we are seeking to build.

2. Why is this move happening now?
We believe Sarang has reached an important moment in its history. Our children have grown, our congregation has become increasingly multi-generational and multicultural, and we believe there is a limited window of opportunity to build a church where future generations can belong, lead, worship, and make disciples without having to leave the spiritual home that formed them.

3. What is the long-term vision for EC in the main sanctuary?
The vision is for EC to grow into a vibrant, mature, disciple-making congregation that is fully part of Sarang Community Church, and not a temporary English department. We hope the main sanctuary will increasingly become a spiritual home for second- and third-generation Korean Americans, multicultural families, and neighbors from many backgrounds.

4. Who is the lead pastor of Sarang EC?
Beginning with the new worship structure, the Senior Pastor will take direct pastoral responsibility for shepherding, teaching, and preaching within Sarang EC. Other EC pastors and ministry leaders will continue to serve alongside him.

5. Is this move primarily about accommodating growth, or are there other reasons?
No. Growth may be one consideration, but the deeper reason is theological and missional. We are seeking to build one church with a shared identity, ministry philosophy, discipleship process, ministry of the Word, education, and mission. After all, the gospel is all about reconciling the world to Him and to each other. We believe this vision of One Church is a natural outcome of the power and the beauty of the gospel working within and through us.

6. Is this a permanent move, or could we relocate again?
The move reflects a long-term vision rather than a temporary scheduling solution. At the same time, church facilities and schedules may always need to adapt as ministries grow and circumstances change. The commitment is ultimately to the vision, not simply to a particular room.

7. Will our worship services remain entirely in English?
Yes, Sarang EC is the English-speaking Congregation, and its primary worship language will remain English. The One Church Vision does not require every congregation to worship in the same language.

8. Is there a plan eventually to combine the English and Korean congregations?
The goal is integration, not homogenization. KC and EC will share one church identity, vision, discipleship philosophy, and mission while continuing to minister meaningfully in their respective languages. There may be special opportunities for united worship and ministry, but the current vision is not simply to merge every Sunday service into one bilingual service. Unity does not mean uniformity.

9. Will the Korean and English congregations actually interact more, or just pass each other in the hallway?
The goal is genuine integration, not merely sharing a campus. Over time, we want to create more opportunities for shared ministry, service, leadership, mission, prayer, fellowship, and intergenerational relationships. Some of these opportunities will develop gradually rather than all at once. We currently have joint missional, educational, and ministerial opportunities in many facets of church life.

10. Will EC still have the freedom to develop its own ministries, outreach initiatives, and community?
Yes. One Church does not mean every ministry must look identical. EC should continue developing ministries that faithfully reach and disciple the people God has entrusted to it, while operating within the shared vision and ministry philosophy of Sarang Community Church. Some ministries will parallel, some will overlap, some will simply be unique to either KC or EC spaces.

11. How will our relationship with the Korean-speaking congregation change?
We hope the relationship will move increasingly from coexistence toward partnership. KC and EC will remain distinct in language and some ministry expressions, but we want to share responsibility for the future of one church and learn to see one another as essential members of the same body.

12. Will EC have a voice in decisions that affect its ministry?
Absolutely. A genuine One Church model requires English-speaking pastors, leaders, families, and members to participate meaningfully in conversations about the ministries that affect them.

13. Does moving into the main sanctuary mean EC matters more, or that it’s being absorbed?
Neither. EC has always mattered because its people are part of the body of Christ and part of Sarang. The move is intended to express belonging and shared ownership, not absorption or loss of identity.

14. What aspects of EC’s current ministry culture will remain unchanged?
We want to preserve the relationships, hospitality, authentic community, English-language ministry, worship, Oikos life, and missional energy that have made EC meaningful. Integration should strengthen those qualities, not erase them.

15. What do church leaders hope EC will look like in three to five years?
We hope to see a thriving, increasingly multi-generational and multicultural congregation deeply rooted in Scripture, worship, discipleship, Oikos community, evangelism, and service. We also hope to see EC members increasingly carrying responsibility and leadership for the future of the whole church.

16. How can members contribute to making this transition successful?
Pray, remain gracious during the period of adjustment, welcome unfamiliar faces, serve where needs arise, communicate concerns constructively, and resist the temptation to divide into “us” and “them.” The One Church Vision will ultimately succeed not because of schedules or buildings, but because God's people choose to love one another and build His church together.

17. What should we do if the new arrangement isn't working well?
We should say so—graciously, honestly, and constructively. Leadership should evaluate what is working and what is not, listen carefully to the congregation, and make appropriate adjustments without abandoning the larger vision simply because implementation requires refinement.

18. How can we pray for and spiritually prepare for this new chapter?
Pray for unity, humility, patience, courage, and love. Pray that God would remove fear and protect us from division; that KC and EC would increasingly see one another as one body; that the next generation would find a true spiritual home here; and that through this transition many people who do not yet know Jesus would hear the gospel and become His disciples. We will also be distributing Prayer Points for the entire congregation.

1. Will our worship service times change?
Yes, our Sunday worship and ministry times will need to be adjusted as EC moves into the main sanctuary. Instead of worshiping at our current times, we will gather altogether at 11 AM as a covenant people of God.

2. Will the worship style, music, or service format change?
English-speaking worship should not be reliant on a particular style, as there are many English-speaking PCA churches with other styles of worship. The move itself is not intended to make EC worship simply imitate KC worship. The goal is biblically faithful, Christ-centered worship that serves the English-speaking congregation while reflecting our shared identity as Sarang. We are convicted that all music is given to humanity as a gift and a tool to enjoy Him and to glorify Him. Hence, we will make honest and thoughtful attempts to incorporate various types of music, while staying true to our theological convictions about Presbyterian form of worship, all the while tapping into our spiritual heritage.

3. Will we continue to have the same pastors preaching?
There will be a change in preaching leadership because the Senior Pastor will take direct responsibility for regularly preaching and shepherding EC. Other pastors will continue to preach and teach as part of the pastoral team.

4. Will our worship team continue leading services?
Yes, the gifts and service of EC worship leaders remain important. The EC worship team will continue to play an important role in leading the English-speaking congregation in worship. The move to the main sanctuary is not intended to eliminate the worship culture and gifts that have developed within EC.
5. Will we be expected to follow the Korean congregation's worship practices?
Please see #2.

Ministries
1. How will the church preserve the relationships and sense of belonging we've developed?
It will not only be preserved but fostered and matured by intentionally protecting and fortifying the things that make community possible: Oikos, fellowship, shared meals, pastoral care, serving together, and time spent together. Moving spaces should not mean starting relationships over again; the goal is to carry those relationships into a larger shared future.

2. How can we ensure that EC doesn't become overlooked within the larger church?
The very purpose of this transition is to move in the opposite direction. EC is being brought more intentionally into the center of the church's pastoral vision, leadership, discipleship, and future planning. That commitment must also be reflected in representation, communication, resources, and ongoing listening.

3. What is happening to the praise team?
The EC worship team will continue to play an important role in leading the English-speaking congregation in worship. The move to the main sanctuary is not intended to eliminate the worship culture and gifts that have developed within EC.

4. Will EC continue to have its own ministry budget?
There are no changes to the way the EC budget is handled. Under the One Church Vision, budgeting should reflect both shared churchwide priorities and the legitimate ministry needs of EC.

5. What opportunities will the move create for outreach, evangelism, and welcoming new families?
The main sanctuary gives EC greater visibility and a clearer identity within Sarang. More importantly, a strong English-speaking congregation can become a spiritual home for second- and third-generation Korean Americans, multicultural families, and neighbors who may never enter a Korean-language worship service but are searching for Christ and community.

6. How will English congregation members communicate concerns or suggestions to church leadership?
EC members should continue communicating through their pastors and ministry leaders, and we should establish clear opportunities for feedback during the transition. You are free to reach out to your parish pastors or Oikos leaders any time before, during, or after the shift.

Will there be changes to the parking ministry?

For the time being, the existing KC Parking Ministry Team will continue overseeing parking for all four Sunday services at the Main Campus. As the new worship schedule settles in, we will continue evaluating staffing and operational needs. Over time, we hope to create additional opportunities for KC and EC members to serve together in this ministry as one church.

Will there be changes to kitchen volunteer service?

Kitchen ministry will continue with three small groups serving at the Main Campus and three small groups serving at KDC each weekend. Service times will include Saturday morning, the 2nd-service time, and the 3rd-service time. EC Oikos groups will also begin participating in the kitchen-service rotation. This is one practical way KC and EC can increasingly share not only our church space, but also the responsibility and joy of serving together as one church.
Sunday Experience
1. Where do we park?
We encourage seniors, families with strollers, and new visitors to park on the main lot next to the main sanctuary. KDC (Kingdom Dream Center) parking lot with continuously running shuttle to the main sanctuary will be available with ample space to park. A detailed parking plan will be communicated before the transition, including recommended lots and entrances for EC families, volunteers, and guests.

How will parking be affected?

As before, we ask that parking at the Main Campus be prioritized for new visitors, seniors, and families with infants or young children. Those who are able are strongly encouraged to park at KDC and use the shuttle service. As we adjust to the new Sunday schedule, we ask everyone to help by sharing our parking resources considerately as one church family.

3. Where and when do we eat?
We recognize that sharing food and fellowship has been an important part of EC community life. Fellowship lunch is available for all both at the main site as well as KDC between 10:40 AM and 12:40 PM.

4. Where will EC members gather for fellowship after service?
We recognize that pre- and post-service fellowship is essential to EC community life, so providing an accessible gathering space is a significant part of church life. Vision Plaza is a wonderful place to gather for a coffee and conversation immediately after the service. Both the back lot and KDC dining area continue to serve as precious spaces for fellowship after service.

5. Will we still have a dedicated space for coffee, refreshments, and community?
The intention should be to preserve meaningful opportunities for hospitality and community rather than allowing Sunday worship to become simply “come in and leave.” Please see above.

How will church social media and YouTube channels be affected?

Initially, KC and EC social media and YouTube channels will continue to operate separately. On the other hand, a new integrated website serving both KC and EC will be introduced as we move into this new season. Over time, we will continue developing our communication platforms so that they serve the distinct needs of each congregation while more clearly expressing our shared identity as one Sarang Community Church.
Children
1. When are the education services?
Next generation worship and education programming schedules are being coordinated alongside the changes to EC worship times. Simply put, we offer educational programming for children and youth of all ages during 2nd, 3rd, and 4th service time slots. Please refer to the Next Generation Education page for the Sunday schedule for each age group.

2. How will the church ensure children's safety during the transition?
Children's safety must remain a non-negotiable priority throughout the transition. All the security measures that include parental check-ins and adult supervision remain unchanged, but we are adding resources to security measures such as advanced CCTVs, an added security team, and greater presence of adult leaders on site.

Infants]
Will there be an Infant Worship Service during the EC 3rd service, or only childcare?

Yes. Infant worship will be provided during the 3rd service. It will be more than just childcare; children will participate in age-appropriate worship and biblical teaching. The main worship and sermon will primarily be in English, while small group activities may be offered in Korean or English depending on the language needs of the children and families. This reflects our One Church commitment to helping every child grow in the same gospel, regardless of the primary language of the service they attend.

Toddlers]
What language will the Toddler ministry use during the EC 3rd service?

The 3rd service will primarily be conducted in English. Korean may also be used during small groups depending on the needs of the children and the availability of teachers. While the language may differ, the gospel and discipleship direction remain the same. Our goal is not to operate KC and EC children's ministries as separate churches, but to serve one next generation within one shared ministry vision.

Is the curriculum the same for EC 3rd service and KC 2nd & 4th services?

Yes. The curriculum will be the same across all services. Children will learn from the same Bible passages and receive the same core biblical teaching. The 2nd and 4th services will be conducted in Korean, while the 3rd service will be in English. Gospel Seed will likewise be provided in Korean for the 2nd and 4th services and in English for the 3rd service. This reflects an important One Church principle: our languages may differ, but the gospel and discipleship vision we pass on to our children are one.

Will the worship order and format be the same for all three services?

Yes. All three services will generally follow the same worship order and format. Each service will begin with praise, followed by offering and prayer, a sermon, and the Lord's Prayer. Children will then participate in small group activities. Although the primary language differs, our goal is for children in every service to experience the same overall rhythm of worship and biblical formation as one church.

Will my child's teachers and classmates change?

We are making every effort to keep children with their current teachers and classmates. In some cases, there may be some changes because of teachers' worship schedules, the addition of the EC 3rd service, and families choosing different worship times. When adjustments are necessary, our priority will not simply be administrative convenience, but helping children maintain healthy relationships and continue growing spiritually within one church family.

Can my child attend both EC and KC services?

Yes. Children may attend both EC and KC services depending on their family's needs and circumstances. Please keep in mind that the Bible passages and core teaching will be the same, with the primary difference being the language of instruction.Understanding that parents are the primary disciplemakers of our children, we are making every effort to ensure that all department is equally committed to helping our kids mature in the Word and Truth.

Will there be changes to the PTA leadership?

No. The current PTA leadership will remain in place. Both EC and KC parents may serve together as PTA leaders. We hope this transition will create even greater opportunities for parents across language groups to work together in raising the next generation of our church.

Kinder]
Will Sharon Choir continue?

Yes. Sharon Choir will continue. As the Main Campus Kinder and KDC Kinder ministries come together, we will introduce KDC Kinder families to the vision and activities of Sharon Choir and invite them to participate. Our church is deeply committed to discipleship, and Sharon Choir represents one of the earliest forms of discipleship formation within our Children's Ministry. As children begin their public-school years, this ministry can play an important role in helping them develop a strong and healthy Christian identity.Through this transition, we hope children from both KC and EC families will increasingly experience worship and service together as one next generation of Sarang Community Church.

How will the worship services be conducted?

The services will generally follow the adult worship schedule: 2nd service KC, 3rd service EC, and 4th service KC. The EC 3rd service will primarily be conducted in English. Some Korean may be used in small groups depending on teacher availability and children's needs. Because the 3rd service has a slightly shorter timeframe, there may also be slight differences in the order of worship or activities. However, regardless of service time or language, our commitment remains the same: every child will be formed by the same gospel and shared discipleship vision.

Will children be reassigned to different classes?

We plan to keep current class assignments as consistent as possible so that children can maintain relational stability. However, if a family changes service times, some class reassignment may become necessary. When changes are needed, the spiritual growth and relational well-being of the children will remain our priority.

Will the teachers remain the same?

Current teachers will continue serving in the Kinder Ministry. However, as services are added and ministries are integrated, some teachers may be reassigned among service times. Additional teachers may also be recruited if more volunteers are needed to care well for the number of children. The goal is not to divide our existing teachers, but to share and coordinate our resources so that we can care well for all of our children as one ministry.

What will happen to the PTA?

The existing PTA teams will continue serving and will collaborate more closely as the ministries come together. We hope this transition will help KC and EC parents increasingly see themselves not only as advocates for their own children, but as partners who share responsibility for the spiritual formation of the entire next generation of our church.

A new English-speaking Youth Ministry will be offered during the 3rd service (EC service) for both junior high and high school students.Students will have a dedicated youth worship and community gathering at the same time. The ministry will be conducted primarily in English and will include worship, biblical teaching, and small-group community designed to help students grow in the gospel, build meaningful relationships with their peers, and mature as disciples of Jesus. Although junior high and high school students will worship together within one ministry, we will structure pastoral care and small groups in ways that are appropriate to their different ages and stages of development. Students may also participate in discipleship training and retreats offered through the existing English-track or Korean-track youth ministries based on their needs and preferences. The goal is not to divide students by language, but to provide multiple pathways within one church so that each student can grow faithfully as a disciple of Jesus.

Since many youth serve in the Education Department, could there eventually be a Youth Ministry during the EC 3rd service?

Yes, please see the answer above.

If a 3rd-service Youth Ministry is created, will there also be small groups?

Yes. Small groups will be an integral part of the 3rd-service Youth Ministry.Following the English-language worship service, junior high and high school students will gather in age-appropriate small groups where they can discuss the Word, share life together, pray for one another, and grow in their faith. We believe small groups are essential because they provide a place where what students hear in worship can be applied in real life and relationships, while helping them encourage one another and mature as disciples of Jesus. The 3rd-service Youth Ministry is therefore not simply an additional English worship service. Our goal is to build a healthy spiritual community where worship, biblical teaching, relationships, and discipleship come together.

What discipleship training and retreat options are available to students who worship with their families during the 3rd service?

Students are welcome to participate in the discipleship programs and retreats offered by either the English-track or Korean-track youth ministries, based on their preference and needs. We offer this flexibility because KC and EC youth ministries are not competing ministries. Both are resources of one church committed to forming the next generation into disciples of Jesus.

What should students expect during the 4th service?

K-Jr. High / K-High
■  12:45–2:00 PM Worship Service
■  2:00–2:30 PM Small Group

Students will attend their respective youth worship services from 12:45–2:00 PM, followed by small groups from 2:00–2:30 PM.The goal is to connect worship, community, and biblical application so that students do more than simply attend a service—they learn, share life, and grow together as disciples.

Young Adults
1. Will NEXT have their own services?
NEXT adult singles ministry will continue to worship together with the rest of the English-speaking congregation in the main sanctuary. NEXT gatherings will also take place on Fridays and Sundays as normally scheduled.
Adults
1. Will Oikos groups remain the same?
Absolutely. Oikos will continue to be an important part of EC discipleship and community life. The larger direction is to align Oikos with the same churchwide discipleship philosophy and pastoral structure while preserving the relationships and community that have already been built. We will be forming new groups as needed as well.

2. Will small groups, Oikos, and Bible studies continue meeting in their current rooms?
Yes, Oikos and Bible study ministries will continue to meet in the same spaces.
